Dr. Vijay Singh received his Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering from U.P Agricultural University, India, in 1967, his Master’s in Engineering from the University of Guelph, Canada, 1970; and his Doctorate in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University in 1974 and Doctorate of Science from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1998. He is currently Distinguished Professor and holder of the Caroline & William N. Lehrer Distinguished Chair in Water in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering and Zachry Department of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University. He is a registered professional engineer, a registered professional hydrologist, and an Honorary diplomate in water resources engineering, American Academy of Water resources Engineers.
Professor Singh specializes in the areas of hydrology, ground water, hydraulics, irrigation engineering, environmental engineering, and water resources. He has worked or works in: rainfall-runoff modeling (especially systems theory and kinematic wave modeling); watershed modeling; water quality modeling (especially solute transport in open channels); entropy theory-based modeling in hydraulics, hydrology, and water resources; theory of hydraulic geometry; copula-based analysis in hydrology and water resources; risk and reliability analysis of water resources systems; climate change impacts on water resources; dam breach modeling; evolution and theory of sand boils; saltwater intrusion; and decision support systems.
Professor Singh has traveled all over the world. He lectures, advises, mentors, and collaborates nationally and internationally. A large number of Ph.D. students have graduated under his supervision and he has guided numerous postdoctoral fellows. He also serves on the faculties of several universities around the world, and has served as a consultant on several national and international projects.
Dr. Singh serves as Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Ground Water Research, Editor-in-Chief of Open Agriculture, and Editor-in-Chief of Water Science and Technology book series of Springer, and associate editor or member of more than 20 journal editorial boards. He has previously served as Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Hydrologic Engineering as well as of Water Science and Engineering.
